Read the sermon text: Isaiah 9:1-7
Read the sermon summary: As we continue our sermon series of expectation leading up to Christmas, this Sunday we will consider Isaiah 9:1-7. The book of Isaiah is about judgment and hope. Because of Israel’s disobedience, they would face destruction and darkness. God would send the nations to judge them. But Isaiah prophesies of a great light shining on his people in their darkness. The promise comes in the form of a child who will sit on the throne of David and will rule with wisdom, justice, and righteousness forever. The promise of Christmas is that Jesus is the light of the world. Though darkness still lingers in the world, we live in the dawn of God’s kingdom, where the light of Christ has already broken through. The nations are already streaming to him to learn God’s ways and walk in his paths (We are evidence of that!). We hold fast to the confident hope that one day the Son will shine in full glory, making all things new when he comes again.
