Worship Preparation - January 5, 2025

Read the sermon text: John 13:34-35; 1 Thessalonians 2:5-8; Hebrews 10:24-25

Read the sermon summary: What better way to start the new year by reflecting on our purpose. We exist to love God's glory, love God's people, and go out in love to serve God's world. This Sunday we’ll delve into what this practically looks like in our particular situation and approach. We’ll see that our love for one another is a distinguishing mark of being a disciple of Jesus. Consider the following questions in preparation of the sermon: How can Christians loving one another be a distinguishing mark of following Jesus if other people in other groups and religions display love to each other? What examples of Christian love can you recall from the book of Acts… what did it look like? What are some implications from the command to “consider how to stir one another up to love and good deeds?”

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

In The Hands Of Christ My King

Verse 1

Come Holy Spirit move in power

Ignite my heart with Your holy fire

Show me the Father show me the Son

Revive my soul again O Spirit come

Chorus

(Because) All my hope is found

In the hands of Christ my King

May my life be found

In the hands of Christ my King

Verse 2

Come Holy Spirit fill me up

Till I am carried by Your rising flood

Show me the Father show me the Son

Revive my soul again O Spirit come

Bridge

If You're not here I don't want to be

I won't be moved unless You move

I want You more than the air I breathe

I need You I need You

Ending

Here in the hands of Christ my King
