Worship Preparation - August 16, 2026
Read the sermon text: Luke 11:27–36
Read the sermon summary: In this passage, Jesus responds to the crowds that were following Him and demanding a sign.
After hearing the wisdom of Jesus, a woman cries out and acknowledges His mother as blessed. Jesus then responds by saying, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Jesus emphasizes that true blessing comes not merely from hearing the Word of God, but from responding to it with obedience.
Jesus then responds directly to those demanding a sign. He points them to Jonah and the Queen of the South, who responded to the revelation they had received. Jesus declares that something greater than Jonah and Solomon is here—Jesus Himself is the greater sign to this wicked generation.
Jesus then uses the illustration of a lamp to remind His listeners that God’s light has been revealed and is meant to be seen. He warns them to be careful about what they take in and how they respond to the light they have received. As followers of Jesus, we are called to walk in His light so that His light may shine through our lives and others may see and glorify the one true Light.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Give Me Faith
Verse 1
I need You to soften my heart
And break me apart
I need You to open my eyes
To see that You're shaping my life
Pre-Chorus
All I am
I surrender
Chorus
Give me faith to trust what You say
That You're good and Your love is great
I'm broken inside I give You my life
Verse 2
I need You to soften my heart
And break me apart
I need You to pierce through the dark
And cleanse every part of me
Bridge
'Cause I may be weak
But Your Spirit's strong in me
My flesh may fail
My God You never will
