Read the sermon text: Ezekiel 1-33

Read the sermon summary: The dominant theme of Ezekiel 1–33 is destruction. Judah and Israel, like their ancestors, rebelled against the Lord and were unfaithful to the covenant God had made with them. As a result, they faced sword, famine, and plague. They were exiled from their land, losing the throne of their father David and seemingly jeopardizing the promise of an everlasting king and kingdom. Even more devastating, the glory of the Lord’s presence left the temple and the city of Jerusalem. What the people truly needed was a new covenant (16:60). They needed to rid themselves of all their offenses and get a new heart and a new spirit (18:31). Only then could they begin to please God. Although all seems lost in these chapters, slivers of hope appear. Chief among them is the promise in Ezekiel 21:27: “The crown will not be restored until he to whom it rightfully belongs shall come.”

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Jesus Is Better

Verse 1

There is no other so sure and steady

My hope is held in Your hand

When castles crumble and breath is fleeting

Upon this rock I will stand

Upon this rock I will stand

Chorus 1

Glory glory we have no other King

But Jesus Lord of all

We raise the anthem

Our loudest praises ring

We crown Him Lord of all

Verse 2

Your kindly rule has shattered and broken

The curse of sin's tyranny

My life is hidden 'neath Heaven's shadow

Your crimson flood covers me

Your crimson flood covers me

Bridge

In all my sorrows Jesus is better

Make my heart believe

In ev'ry vict'ry Jesus is better

Make my heart believe

Than any comfort Jesus is better

Make my heart believe

More than all riches Jesus is better

Make my heart believe

And our souls declaring Jesus is better

Make my heart believe

And our song eternal Jesus is better

Make my heart believe

Chorus 2

Glory glory we have no other King

But Jesus Lord of all

Glory glory we have no other King

But Jesus Lord of all

We raise the anthem

Our loudest praises ring

We crown Him Lord of all

We crown Him Lord of all
