Worship Preparation - June 28, 2026
Read the sermon text: Luke 9:49-62
Read the sermon summary: "He set his face to go to Jerusalem." With these words in Luke 9:51, the Gospel turns a corner. Up to now, Luke has focused on Jesus' identity and the nature of his mission. From here to chapter 19, Jesus is on the road to Jerusalem. But this is not so much a geographical move as it is a Christological and theological one. Jesus is resolute and willing to accomplish the Father's will, his exodus. And he calls his disciples to follow him on this road with single-minded devotion to him, aligning their wills and lives to his. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What word repetitions do you see in this passage? What does it mean that the Samaritans did not receive him because he was going to Jerusalem? What do you make of the would-be followers of Jesus in verses 57-62?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
From The Inside Out
Verse 1
A thousand times I've failed
Still Your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
Still I'm caught in Your grace
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never-ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame
Verse 2
Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never-ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame
Chorus 1
In my heart in my soul
Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love You from the inside out
Chorus 2
Everlasting
Your light will shine when all else fades
Never-ending
Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out (Lord)
