Read the sermon text: Luke 10:1-20

Read the sermon summary: The kingdom of God has come near. This was the message that the seventy two took with them as they went ahead of Jesus to proclaim the kingdom and heal the sick. But the message has different meanings depending on how one hears it; for those who receive it, peace, but for those who reject it, the judgment of God.  Jesus' witnesses are invested with real authority and their word carries real weight. Those who reject them, reject Jesus and the one who sent him. The success of the seventy two foreshadows the victory that Christ will have over his enemies on the last day. Yet, Jesus gently corrects them in their excitement over their success; the greater cause for rejoicing is having your name written in heaven. In this passage we see a template for the Christian mission in Acts, the gravity of the message we carry, and the certainty that Christ's kingdom has come near and will triumph.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

There Is A King

Verse 1

There is a king seated among us

Let every heart receive Him now

Where there is praise He will inhabit

There will be grace and mercy all around

Chorus 1

(And) Every burden will be lifted in His presence

Every trophy will be laid down at His feet

There is a name that reigns above all others

Jesus Christ the king above all kings

Verse 2

Unto the lamb honor and glory

Worthy is He who overcame

Buried in shame risen in power

He is alive the stone is rolled away

Chorus 2

All our worship will belong to Him forever

Death is conquered and our Savior holds the keys

There is a name that reigns above all others

Jesus Christ the king above all kings

Verse 3

It won't be long we will behold Him

And every tear He'll wipe away

We'll be at home the war will be over

Soon we will meet our Savior face to face

Chorus 3

And all our worship will belong to You forever

Holy holy for all eternity

Yours is the name that reigns above all others

Jesus Christ the king above all kings

Jesus Christ the king above all kings
