Worship Preparation - July 12, 2026
Read the sermon text: Luke 10:21-24
Read the sermon summary: Last Sunday we noticed what we should rejoice in. Not in the power, authority, or gifts we might use for the sake of the kingdom, but because our names are written in heaven. In our next passage, we see what Jesus rejoices in. The Holy Spirit within him gives rise to rejoicing in and giving thanks for the gracious will of the Father in hiding the knowledge of God from some, and revealing it to others. Privately, to the disciples, Jesus highlights the wonderful privilege of seeing and hearing the kingdom of God come in the person of Jesus, the Son of God. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: How does God's work of hiding and revealing display the gracious will of the Father? What words are repeated in this passage? In highlighting the privilege of the disciples, what is Jesus emphasizing about them?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Man Of Sorrows
Verse 1
Man of sorrows Lamb of God
By His own betrayed
The sin of man and wrath of God
Has been on Jesus laid
Verse 2
Silent as He stood accused
Beaten mocked and scorned
Bowing to the Father's will
He took a crown of thorns
Chorus
Oh that rugged cross my salvation
Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out hallelujah
Praise and honour unto Thee
Verse 3
Sent of heaven God's own Son
To purchase and redeem
And reconcile the very ones
Who nailed Him to that tree
Bridge
Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood
That my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin
Has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
Verse 4
See the stone is rolled away
Behold the empty tomb
Hallelujah God be praised
He's risen from the grave
