The pictures that follow — a friend who keeps knocking, a father who gives good gifts — aren't a promise that we'll get whatever we ask. They're an invitation to approach God without shame, trusting he's generous rather than reluctant. 

In this text, we see that believers can bring real needs, not polished ones, before the Father. We let God's glory shape our prayers more than our comfort does. And we remember the best answer he gives is himself. If prayer was central to Jesus's life, it's worth making it central to ours.
