Read the sermon text: Luke 13:22-30

Read the sermon summary: What will Christ's coming look like? What happens to people who have never heard the gospel? We might ask questions like these because we want to understand the teaching of scripture. I love that our church is filled with deep theological conversations every week. However, if we're not careful, we may end up living in the theoretical world instead of the real world. In our passage for this Sunday, someone asks Jesus one of these questions. Will there only be a few people saved? Instead of answering his question, Jesus makes it personal with a command to the man and those listening: Strive to enter through the narrow door. We're reminded that these deep spiritual things aren't merely theoretical, but personal. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What's different between Luke's account and the parallel passages in Matthew and how does that shape our interpretation of this passage? What passages in the Old Testament speak of people coming from the east, west, north, and south? How might those help us understand this passage?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Is He Worthy

Verse 1

Do you feel the world is broken

We do

Do you feel the shadows deepen

We do

But do you know that all the dark

Won't stop the light from getting through

We do

Do you wish that you could see it all made new

We do

Verse 2

Is all creation groaning

It is

Is a new creation coming

It is

Is the glory of the Lord

To be the light within our midst

It is

Is it good that we remind ourselves of this

It is

Chorus 1

Is anyone worthy

Is anyone whole

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

He is David's Root

And the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

Of all blessing and honor and glory

Is He worthy of this

He is

Verse 3

Does the Father truly love us

He does

Does the Spirit move among us

He does

And does Jesus our Messiah

Hold forever those He loves

He does

Does our God intend to dwell again with us

He does

Chorus 2

Is anyone worthy

Is anyone whole

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

He is David's Root

And the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

From ev'ry people and tribe every nation and tongue

He has made us a kingdom and priests

To God to reign with the Son

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

Of all blessing and honor and glory

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

Is He worthy of this

He is

Ending

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

He is

He is
