Read the sermon text: Luke 13:31-35

Read the sermon summary: This week’s passage Jesus is confronted by the Pharisees and informed of a death threat against Him by King Herod. In response Jesus shows boldness in the midst of adversity and his commitment to the task as he continues his journey to Jerusalem.

Jesus also grieves over Jerusalem that God has persistently sent prophets to throughout Old Testament history but Jerusalem has stoned and killed them. This week let us consider the steadfast love of Christ that longs to comfort Jerusalem even in the midst of her rebellion.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Son Of Suffering

Verse 1

Oh the perfect Son of God

In all His innocence

Here walking in the dirt with you and me

He knows what living is

He’s acquainted with our grief

A man of sorrows Son of suffering

Chorus

Blood and tears how can it be

(That) there’s a God who weeps

There’s a God who bleeds

Oh praise the One

Who would reach for me

Hallelujah to the Son of suffering

Verse 2

Some imagine You are distant and removed

But You chased us down in merciful pursuit

To the sinner You were grace

And the broken You embraced

And in the end the proof is in Your wounds

Yes in the end the proof is in Your wounds

Bridge 1

Your cross my freedom

Your stripes my healing

All praise King Jesus

Glory to God in Heaven

Your blood still speaking

Your love still reaching

All praise King Jesus

Glory to God forever

Tag 1

Glory to God forever

Glory to God forever

Glory to God forever

(Glory to God forever)

Tag 2

Hallelujah to the Son of suffering
