Worship Preparation - April 6, 2025
Read the sermon text: 1 Peter 2:1-8
Read the sermon summary: Last Sunday we considered the new way of life elect exiles have been called to. It's a joyful obedience to the Father that demonstrates a sharp contrast to our old ways of living and is expressed ultimately in our concrete love for one another in the fellowship of believers. In our passage for this Sunday, we see a continuation of this idea. Not only are we casting off our old ways, we are growing up into salvation. We are being built into a spiritual house for the Lord to be priests who offer spiritual sacrifices. But how is God accomplishing this? By what means will we grow? What kind of priests will we be?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Verse 1
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
Verse 2
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Chorus
My chains are gone I've been set free
My God my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love amazing grace
Verse 3
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
Verse 4
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine
