Read the sermon summary: This Sunday, we’ll consider a somewhat strange but hope-filled passage that reminds us suffering for doing good isn’t out of the ordinary. In fact, it’s the path Christ himself walked. Jesus, the Righteous One, suffered and died not because he did anything wrong, but to bring us to God. Peter lifts our eyes to Christ’s victory in his resurrection and reign at the right hand of God. He then connects that triumph to our lives through the reference to Noah and the ark. Baptism, Peter says, isn’t just a ritual. It’s a sign that we belong to the risen Christ. Just as Noah was brought safely through the flood, we’re saved through Christ, who now reigns over all.
