Read the sermon text:1 Peter 3:13-17

Read the sermon summary: In the back of our minds, many of us carry the idea that if we do good, things will go well for us. We assume that if we have enough faith and avoid sin, then God will bless us in this life. While righteous living can help us avoid certain painful consequences, our passage this Sunday shows us that suffering for righteousness' sake is not a detour from God’s blessing. It’s often part of it. This Sunday, we’ll consider how God uses the suffering of his people for his glory, for our good, and as a powerful witness to the gospel.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

It Is Well With My Soul

Verse 1

When peace like a river attendeth my way

When sorrow like sea billows roll

Whatever my lot You have taught me to say

It is well it is well with my soul

Verse 2

But Lord it's for Thee for Thy coming we wait

The sky not the grave is our goal

Oh trump of the angel oh voice of the Lord

Blessed hope blessed rest of my soul

Chorus

It is well with my soul

It is well it is well with my soul

Bridge

You are the Rock on which I stand

By Your grace it is well

My hope is sure in Christ my Saviour

It is well with my soul
