Worship Preparation - June 29, 2025
Read the sermon text: 1 Peter 5:6-14
Read the sermon summary: As Peter brings his letter to a close, he leaves his readers with one final exhortation which centers on humility, watchfulness, and hope. As holy exiles, we need to know how to relate rightly to God, how to resist our adversary, the devil, and how God will relate to us in this age of exile. Though the path of exile includes suffering, the God of all grace will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish us. As you prepare to hear God's word, consider the following questions the rest of the week: What does it mean to humble yourself "under the mighty hand of God"? Why does Peter describe the devil as a "roaring lion" and what does it look like to resist him? How do God's closing words about God's grace, restoration, and eternal glory encourage us to endure?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
I Surrender All
Verse 1
All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live
Chorus
I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
I surrender all
Verse 2
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow
Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Take me Jesus take me now
Verse 3
All to Jesus I surrender
Make me Savior wholly Thine
Let me feel the Holy Spirit
Truly know that Thou art mine
Verse 4
All to Jesus I surrender
Lord I give myself to Thee
Fill me with Thy love and power
Let Thy blessing fall on me
Verse 5
All to Jesus I surrender
Now I feel the sacred flame
O the joy of full salvation
Glory glory to His name
