Worship Preparation - July 6, 2025
Read the sermon text: 2 Peter 1:1-11
Read the sermon summary: Peter’s aim in 2 Peter is that believers would be fruitful and firmly established in the truth of the knowledge of God, resisting false teachers and the destructive heresies they bring. In these first eleven verses reminds us of what God has granted to us to make us partakers of what he calls “the divine nature.” Because of God’s gracious gift, we are encouraged to put into practice the qualities which will make us fruitful and firmly established in the faith. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: According to verse 3-4, what has God given us and how should that shape the way we pursue godliness? What does Peter mean by being “ineffective or unfruitful” in the knowledge of Christ? How does our confirming our calling and election relate to our assurance and the daily effort of growing in Christ?
