Read the sermon text: 2 Peter 2:1-10a

Read the sermon summary: We love to hear the promises of God and at Christ Church Wake Forest we love to faithfully proclaim the gospel week in and week out. We also need to hear the warnings of scripture. For the next two Sundays, we will consider Peter's warnings concerning false teachers who will rise up against God's church. This Sunday we will consider 2 Peter 2:1-10a. In this passage, Peter warns the believers that false teachers will arise in their midst just like false prophets arose among God's people in the past. He assures his readers that even though it seems like the false teachers have everything going for them, their judgment is certain. Just as the Lord knew how to rescue his people and judge the unrighteous in the past, he knows how to do so today. In preparation for the sermon, consider the following questions: What parallel does Peter use to suggest Christians today should expect false teachers within the church? What does Peter say the false teachers will do? Why do you think Peter includes the details of "righteousness" concerning Noah and Lot?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Is He Worthy

Verse 1

Do you feel the world is broken

We do

Do you feel the shadows deepen

We do

But do you know that all the dark

Won't stop the light from getting through

We do

Do you wish that you could see it all made new

We do

Verse 2

Is all creation groaning

It is

Is a new creation coming

It is

Is the glory of the Lord

To be the light within our midst

It is

Is it good that we remind ourselves of this

It is

Chorus 1

Is anyone worthy

Is anyone whole

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

He is David's Root

And the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

Of all blessing and honor and glory

Is He worthy of this

He is

Verse 3

Does the Father truly love us

He does

Does the Spirit move among us

He does

And does Jesus our Messiah

Hold forever those He loves

He does

Does our God intend to dwell again with us

He does

Chorus 2

Is anyone worthy

Is anyone whole

Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll

The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave

He is David's Root

And the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

From ev'ry people and tribe every nation and tongue

He has made us a kingdom and priests

To God to reign with the Son

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

Of all blessing and honor and glory

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

Is He worthy of this

He is

Ending

Is He worthy

Is He worthy

He is

He is
