Worship Preparation - October 12, 2025
Read the sermon text: Luke 1:1-4
Read the sermon summary: This Sunday we will begin a sermon series through the Gospel of Luke. In the first several verses we see the author's purpose for writing this book for Theophilus: "That you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught." The "things" he had been taught were those very things concerning Jesus, delivered by the eyewitnesses and apostles. As we journey through this book about "all that Jesus began to do and teach" (Acts 1:1), it would be a good opportunity to invite friends and family who have some questions about who Jesus is and what it means to follow him. In preparation for the sermon, consider the following questions: If "many" had previously written narratives of Jesus, why did the author think it was good to write another one? What qualification(s) does the author have to be able to write an orderly account of the life of Jesus? What do you think is the value of having four gospel narratives in the Bible (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Revelation Song
Verse 1
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Holy holy is He
Sing a new song to Him Who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat
Chorus
Holy holy holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of kings
You are my ev'rything
And I will adore You
Verse 2
Clothed in rainbows of living color
Flashes of lightning rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor strength and glory
And power be to You the only wise King
Verse 3
Filled with wonder awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your name
Jesus Your name is power breath and living water
Such a marv'lous mystery yeah
