Read the sermon text: Luke 12:35-48
Read the sermon summary: When will Jesus return to bring a close to the last days and usher in a new beginning? We naturally yearn to nail down the event's precise timing. Our text confronts us with a better question: What will we be found doing when Jesus returns? Jesus' words turn sharp towards the end. We encounter two servants who will receive beatings and one who will be cut into pieces. But for those servants found faithful, Jesus himself, the Son of Man, will sit them at his table and come and serve them. What will you be found doing when Jesus returns?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Before The Throne Of God
Verse 1
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
Verse 2
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
Verse 3
When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin
Verse 4
Because the sinless Saviour died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
Verse 5
Behold Him there the risen Lamb
My perfect spotless Righteousness
The great unchangeable I AM
The King of glory and of grace
Verse 6
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Saviour and my God
