Worship Preparation - March 8, 2026
Read the sermon text: Luke 6:1-11
Read the sermon summary: In the last two weeks we’ve seen the Pharisees challenge Jesus regarding forgiving sins, table fellowship, and fasting. In our passage for this Sunday, some of the Pharisees continue their watchful gaze of Jesus, this time regarding the Sabbath, hoping to bring accusations against him. Jesus both declares his Lordship over the Sabbath and then demonstrates it by healing a man with a withered hand. With this healing, Jesus instigates a confrontation with the Pharisees, exposing their hearts and their misunderstanding of the purpose of the Sabbath. It was given to the Israelites to bring rest and restoration to people in need. But that temporary, limited rest pointed forward to a greater rest… one that is found only in Jesus, the Son of Man, who is Lord of the Sabbath. In preparation for the sermon, consider the following questions: What words or phrases do you see repeated? Why doesn’t Jesus explicitly refute the Pharisees’ interpretation of the Sabbath, instead referring to the story of David in 1 Samuel 21? How does Jesus’ question in verse 9 limit the options of what is lawful or unlawful on the Sabbath?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Holy Forever
Verse 1
A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who've gone before us
And all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb
Pre-Chorus
(Jesus) Your name is the highest
Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all
All thrones and dominions
All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all
Chorus 1
And the angels cry Holy
All creation cries Holy
You are lifted high Holy
Holy forever
Verse 2
If you've been forgiven and if you've been redeemed
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
If you walk in freedom and if you bear His name
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
We'll sing the song forever and amen

Hear Your people sing Holy
To the King of Kings Holy
You will always be Holy
Holy forever
Tag
You will always be Holy
Holy forever
