Worship Preparation - May 17, 2026
Read the sermon text: Luke 8:40-56
Read the sermon summary: At the beginning of Luke 8, Jesus taught by way of parable about rightly hearing the word of God. What follows in the rest of the chapter is a series of miracle stories related to that hearing: what does it look like to respond rightly to Jesus? In this third miracle episode, made up of two miracles in sandwich form, we see saving faith in the midst of desperation. What does faith look like when everything you see points to hopelessness? In preparation for the sermon, consider the following questions: What words and themes are shared by both miracle scenes? Why do you think Jesus asked who touched him? What attitudes in the passage are opposed to faith?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
The Goodness Of Jesus
Verse 1
Come you weary heart now to Jesus
Come you anxious soul now and see
There is perfect love and comfort in your tears
Rest here in His wondrous peace
Chorus
Oh the goodness the goodness of Jesus
Satisfied he is all that I need
May it be come what may that I rest all my days
In the goodness of Jesus
Verse 2
Come find what this world cannot offer
Come and find your joy here complete
Taste the living water never thirst again
Rest here in His wondrous peace
Verse 3
Come and find your hope now in Jesus
He is all he said he would be
Grace is overflowing from the Saviour’s heart
Rest here in His wondrous peace
